O2 Guide

O2 UK.
Europe's First Satellite Network.

Independent O2 guidance — satellite coverage, Priority rewards, EU roaming, plan types.

O2 launched on 1 January 1985 as Cellnet — one of the UK's original two mobile networks. After rebranding in 2002 and Telefónica's £17.7B acquisition in 2006, O2 now operates as part of Virgin Media O2 — a £31B 50/50 JV between Telefónica and Liberty Global. On 26 February 2026, O2 became Europe's first operator to launch direct-to-device satellite mobile via SpaceX Starlink, extending UK landmass coverage from 89% to 95%.
