UK Mobile Questions Answered.

Answers about Three, O2, EE, Tesco Mobile, PAC codes, price rises, roaming, and eSIM.

Which UK network has the best 5G in 2026?
+
EE is independently rated the UK's best — umlaut Best in Test 2026 with a record 920/1000 (11 consecutive years) and 77.4% 5G availability (Opensignal January 2026). O2 won Uswitch Best Coverage 2026 and extended UK landmass coverage to 95% via SpaceX Starlink. Three had the fastest peak speeds pre-April 2026 but new plans are capped at 100 Mbps. Always check the official coverage checker at your specific postcode before deciding.
How do I switch network and keep my number?
+
Text PAC to 65075. Free 9-character PAC code within 60 seconds. Give it to your new network when signing up. Your number transfers within one working day. Old contract auto-cancelled. Free, legally guaranteed under Ofcom — cannot be refused or delayed. To leave without keeping your number, text STAC to 75075.
Does Three have a speed cap on new plans in 2026?
+
Yes — from 19 April 2026. New Three Pay Monthly standard plans are capped at 100 Mbps. New PAYG plans capped at 25 Mbps (50 Mbps with Auto-Renew). A Full Speed Add-on at £4/month removes the cap entirely. Existing in-contract customers are NOT affected until they re-contract. EE and O2 unlimited plans have no speed caps.
Do I get free EU roaming on UK mobile plans?
+
O2 is the only major UK MNO not to reintroduce EU charges — 49 destinations free on all standard plans (25GB fair use). Three Complete plans cover 163 countries via Go Roam. EE All Rounder+ includes EU free; EE Essentials charges £2.29/day. Tesco Mobile covers 48 destinations (Home From Home). Always verify your specific plan before travelling.
What are the annual price rises in 2026?
+
EE SIM Only voice plans: +£2.50/month each March. O2 Airtime Plans: +£2.50/month each April. Under Ofcom's January 2025 rule, the exact £/p rise must be stated at sign-up. You have a 30-day penalty-free exit window if it wasn't. Tesco Mobile Clubcard Price plans are frozen — no annual rise.
Is RD Rising Zone affiliated with any UK network?
+
No. RD Rising Zone (rdrisingzone.online) is completely independent. We have no commercial, financial, or operational connection to Three, O2, EE, Tesco Mobile, Vodafone, or any UK mobile operator. We do not sell plans, earn commission from networks, or accept carrier advertising. Brand names are used for educational identification only.
What is an eSIM and does my phone support it?
+
An eSIM is a digital SIM permanently built into your device — no physical card needed. Activate via QR code in minutes. Compatible with iPhone XS+; Samsung Galaxy S20+; Google Pixel 3+; select iPad and Apple Watch. Dial *#06# — if you see an EID number alongside IMEI, your phone has eSIM. All major UK networks support eSIM on qualifying plans.
What happened with the Three and Vodafone merger?
+
Three UK and Vodafone UK merged on 31 May 2025, creating VodafoneThree — the UK's largest mobile network with 28.8 million combined customers and an £11B 10-year investment commitment. Both Three and Vodafone continue operating as separate consumer brands. In May 2026, Vodafone Group announced a £4.3B buyout of CK Hutchison's 49% stake in VodafoneThree.
How do I get better signal indoors?
+
Enable WiFi Calling in your device settings — all major UK networks support this, routing calls over WiFi when mobile signal is weak. EE Pay Monthly customers get free access to 150,000 BT WiFi hotspots including all London Underground stations. O2's Satellite service (£3/month) extends outdoor signal in remote areas but does not improve indoor building penetration.
What is the PAC code and how does it work?
+
A PAC (Porting Authorisation Code) is a free 9-character code authorising your number to transfer to a new UK network. Text PAC to 65075 — code arrives within 60 seconds, valid 30 days. Give it to your new network at sign-up. Transfer completes within 1 working day. Old contract ends automatically. Cannot be charged for or refused under Ofcom rules.
